HYAKUNIN-ISSHU:
Japanese playing cards of one hundred famous poems in verse of 5, 7, 5, 7, and 7 syllables). The last 14 syllables are written on the cards
dealt out, and a reader begins to read a poem from the first part. Thus, to get many cards, players should memorize all one hundred poems. Of course some cards are tricky.
Kai (4 year old) was delighted at being a reader (first time!!), which is usually a detested role. He could read all poems very well. |
